April 21st, 2010 -- As the CASCOR Super Car Series rolled into Talladega, AL many drivers felt it was their time to shine. As any driver that puts themselves in the right position at the end of the race, could win at Talladega.
Aaron Levin and Mike Husby for the second consecutive Super Speedway (Daytona and Talladega) race started on the front row.
The first caution would involve eventual race winner Matt Trace, spinning out of 7th place for what would be a solo spin on lap 2. Another caution would follow for a check up on the restart involving 3 cars.
Racing would resume on lap 12 with Ethan Taylor leading Jordan Robson, Brent Sweet, Matt Trace and Pete Engelmanas back to green.
Green flag racing would last long enough to have green flag pit stops, as the majority of the field would come down pit road on lap 22 for mostly fuel only. Cory Spencer, new teammate to Rick Ware Racing won the race of pit road followed by Johnny Williams, Tyler Tucker, Matt Trace and Ian Hann the top 5.
The small one would strike nine laps later with 16 laps to go involving the #25 of Jon Iaccino, #47 Ian Hann and the #58 of Jordan Robson. Matt Trace led the field back to green with 11 laps to go.
But the big one would happen with 10 laps to go involving point’s leader going into Talladega, Tyler Tucker. Twelve other cars were involved in the incident with the top 3 unscathed.
Restart with 5 laps to go saw Matt Trace leading Pete Engelmanas, Mike Husby, Will Goshen and Brent Sweet back to the green flag. The 2nd big one would strike again with the #07 of Ethan Taylor getting into Andrew Hayes in turn 3 and 4, checking up the field behind them.
Johnny Williams with nowhere to go got into Taylor causing a 7 car wreck with one lap to go. Meanwhile Matt Trace would have to defend his position over the hard charging Husby Motorsports drivers of Engelmanas, Husby and Goshen.
The four drivers would battle hard to the finish line, but Trace would pull it off to win the CASCOR Racing 100 at Talladega. Pete Engelmanas finishes 2nd, Mike Husby 3rd, Will Goshen 4th and Jordan Robson rounded out the top 5.
With an exciting past two weeks in the Super Car Series, the division has the next two weeks off. Will we see another new winner next time out? And can Mike Husby or Tyler Tucker steal the show by seasons end? Find out next time when the series returns to racing at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Quaker Steak & Lube 100.
